Déjà Vu and Dreams

Have you ever felt déjà vu? You know, that feeling you get when something happens, to you, again. The belief that you have already experienced that moment before. Have you ever experienced that?

Me, all the time.

I love equating it to Hermione in Harry Potter – and her time turner. Just that little glimpse that you’ve done this before, said it before. Out of the corner of an eye, do you see something that makes it all seem like it happened before?

Dreams but Not

It’s happened more than once. It feels like it is a consistent, “Oh, this has already happened.” But it hasn’t. I just know what someone is going to say next, or what happens next during the day. My husband (among others) always say that I’m dreaming, or that I really don’t know what will happen next.

But I do.

I swear.

It seems so strange thinking about it, but sometimes, it just fees exactly like I’ve already done this day before. I’ve already had this talk with someone or taken this test. I’m not crazy. I can even predict when I’m going to start feeling déjà vu again.

How do I know?

It’s when I’ve had the same recurring dream for at least two nights. Or if my dream picks up where it left off the night (or nights) before. And it won’t necessarily be the next day that I feel that I’ve already had that day. It could be a month down the way and I go, “Hmm. Didn’t this happen back in June? Oh no, must’ve been déjà vu.”

And then I like to see exactly how much I remember – or feel as if I had experienced before. It comes out in various ways – mumbling under my breath at the same time as someone else, writing down what will happen next, exclaiming “I knew it!” and getting strange looks, and more.

There’s Something Out There

Strange as it all sounds, I love the moments that I have déjà vu. It makes me feel as if something is waiting – for me to notice, or to write about, or to just experience. And when I do, it celebrates. Now, I believe in God. That while we have “free will” to choose our destiny, it was already predetermined. Could this be the déjà vu? When we choose something that correlates with our predestination, we feel déjà vu. After all, if it is already determined, it has already happened.

And isn’t that what déjà vu is all about? Feeling as if we’re already repeating the experience?
