Struggling through NaNo

It’s only the fifth day but it already feels like I am losing Nano. Yes, I have “written” every day, but it feels like I am losing because I am so unfocused. I know that priorities have changed with having an eight-week old, but I had hoped that because I am still on maternity leave, I could write during the day while he is sleeping. That is, unfortunately, not happening.

This past weekend, I believe that I wrote a total of 100 words. 100 words in 3 days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) – not counting blog posts. I am just not feeling this story but I want to write the next one after Alice. However, I figured writing in order would help me simply get through everything faster. However, it is not. I feel like I should’ve started with one that I am wanting to write, not just one I had decided to add into the story. Luckily, I have about 4,000 more words for this one and then I can move on. I am hoping that tomorrow, I will be able to finish this short story and move on to another one as well as catch up on my word count.

At least tomorrow, the little one should be better – two month shots today definitely lend time for me to write as he needed cuddles and held onto me all day. So hopefully, tomorrow will be an easier day to write.

But, we’ll see. I guess technically I am still winning Nano, since I have written every day. I am just having a hard time just letting that be enough – not just getting the word count.

But I’m trying – and I’m hoping all the other Wrimos are doing well! Perhaps tomorrow, if I don’t hit my word goal, or finish Alice, I’ll simply do a break and a quick prompt to clear my mind.

Write on!
